Remembering The Queen’s Visits To Market Harborough & Lubenham

The Queen’s visits to Market Harborough and Lubenham are being recalled today.

Her Majesty and other members of the Royal Family made several private visits to Thorpe Lubenham Hall to stay with the Phillips family up to the 1970s, with crowds often gathering to watch as they walked to attend church services at All Saints Church in Lubenham.

Market Harborough had its own brief Royal Visit on May 12th 1967, when the Queen, accompanied by Prince Phillip, arrived at the town’s railway station to board the Royal Train, having carried out engagements in Rutland.

Peter Wilford from Clipston took photos in Lubenham during one of the visits in 1956 and was part of the Market Harborough Movie Makers team who filmed the visit to Market Harborough.
