Rail Users Frustrated At Toilet & Underpass Situation

Passengers are frustrated they are still having to use temporary toilets outside Market Harborough railway station, eight months after its major transformation was completed.

Network Rail says it is working on upgrading the main toilets, but hasn’t said when they will reopen.

Councillor Phil Knowles campaigned for the £53m upgrade to station facilities and has been contacted by people who use the station:

Passengers are also waiting for the underpass linking the booking hall with the southbound platform to reopen, as it has been shut since work began on the new platforms, but as yet there is no date when this will happen.

Nick Wilton, Sponsor for Network Rail, said: “We are working to upgrade the main toilets at the station. To allow this to take place, it means these facilities are currently closed. Temporary facilities are in place, but we understand this does have an impact on station users, and we are sorry for that.

“We would like to thank all station users for their patience whilst this work takes place. We continue to work closely with East Midlands Railway on this project which, once complete, will provide station users with improved facilities.”

“Over the past year, Market Harborough railway station has been transformed as part of the Midland Main Line Upgrade. Major work has taken place to straighten the line through the station, which has allowed trains to travel at higher speeds through the area, install a new, accessible footbridge and increase car parking at the station by 200 spaces.”
