Rail Bosses Urged To Listen As Ticket Office Closure Consultation To End

The Leader of Harborough District Council is urging rail bosses to take note of concerns about the proposed closure of the ticket office at Market Harborough Railway Station.

Today is the last day for people to comment on the controversial plan, which is opposed by unions, disabled groups and others.

The office is one of over a thousand nationwide earmarked for closure, with concerns it will put disabled, older and vulnerable people off rail travel.

A public consultation, which was extended over the summer because of the level of opposition, ends at midnight.

Cllr Phil Knowles, who met bosses from East Midlands Railway to raise concerns about the plan, told HFM all the points raised must be taken seriously before a final decision is taken:

East Midlands Railway say staff will remain at the station ‘for most trains’ if the closure goes ahead, with those working in the office transitioning to multi-skilled ‘customer help’ roles.
