Radio Hams In Husbands Bosworth Celebrate Tony Hancock

Radio hams in Husbands Bosworth are running a special event station to celebrate what would have been comedian Tony Hancock’s 100th birthday tomorrow.

Hancock was best known for his BBC radio and TV series Hancock’s Half Hour, which included an  episode entitled ‘The Radio Ham’ first aired in 1961.

The Gliding Centre Amateur Radio Society have been granted the call-sign ‘GB1 TH’ for the broadcast this weekend, which is expected to attract interest from far and wide.

They are also welcoming anyone to visit their premises at the Gliding Centre during the course of the broadcast.

Classic episodes of Hancock’s Half Hour are due to air on BBC 4 from 7pm tomorrow, while BBC Radio 4 Extra plans to air a number of ‘lost episodes’ and tributes.
