Police Station Evacuated After Suspected WW2 Grenade Handed In

Market Harborough Police Station was evacuated this afternoon after a suspected WW2 grenade was handed in.
A cordon was put in place around the building on Fairfield Road just after 2.30pm and bomb disposal experts were called to the scene.

The army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team safely removed the device and officers and staff were allowed back into the building around 5pm.
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police initially told HFM: “Market Harborough Police Station is currently closed following the discovery of what is believed to be an explosive device at 2.40pm.
“The device was taken to the police station by a member of the public and is thought to be from World War Two.
“As a precaution, the station has been evacuated while Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) travel to the scene, and there is a cordon in place.”
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service were also called to scene and roads in the area of the police station were initially closed.
