Market Harborough Car Display Shines A Light On Hygiene Poverty

Market Harborough’s Hygiene Bank has supported more than 200 individuals and families so far this year, providing free everyday essentials to people who need them.

The charity supplies items such as deodorant, shampoo and toothpaste to help people who are struggling to afford basic hygiene products.

Its work is being highlighted during National Hygiene Week, with five yellow cars – the charity’s signature colour – taking part in a convoy around the town before parking beneath the Old Grammar School.

The display was designed to raise awareness of the scale of hygiene poverty, with almost one in five UK adults experiencing difficulties accessing essential hygiene products.

Those affected could be friends, colleagues, neighbours or even family members, and their circumstances may not be obvious to others.

Hygiene Bank co-ordinator Judy Rowley told HFM that asking for help can often be difficult.
