Power Work Forces Temporary Closure Of Octagonal Theatre

The Octagonal Theatre and hall at Welland Park Academy in Market Harborough will close temporarily during the October half-term because of essential electrical work.

All lettings will be cancelled from Monday, October 19th, to Friday, October 23rd, while the school’s electricity supply is disconnected to allow a new substation to be connected.

Welland Park Academy says the power outage is expected to last several days, with safety checks and work to restore systems needed before the facilities can reopen.

The school hopes the theatre and hall will be available again from Saturday, October 24th, but says it cannot confirm a reopening date until it receives further details about the completion of the work.

In a statement, the academy said the closure was a direct consequence of essential infrastructure work being carried out as part of the new substation project.

It apologised for the inconvenience caused to community groups and hirers, adding that the situation was entirely outside the academy’s control.
