Harborough Police’s ‘Road Race’ Warning

Police are reassuring residents that decisive action is being taken following further incidents of road racing on the A6.

Officers attended last weekend after several calls were received complaining cars were being driven at dangerous speeds on the bypass around the villages of Great Glen and Kibworth Beauchamp.

These meets appear to be organised on social media, and have attracted young people from across the county with customised cars adapted for speed.

So far, 15 registration plates have been obtained by the police and letters written to the registered keepers warning them about their anti-social and unsafe behaviour.

Sergeant Pete Jelbert from Harborough Police says officers will be out on patrol again this evening (Saturday 27th April) and anyone using the A6 as a racetrack could face serious consequences.

Going forward, police say they will direct additional patrols to the areas on Tuesdays and Saturdays, between 9pm to 11pm, when the problem has primarily been occurring.
