Over 240 Arrests During Drink/Drug Drive Campaign

Over 240 drivers were arrested on the roads of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire during the Police’s festive drink and drug drive campaign.
13 of the 115 arrests in Leicestershire during December were made in the Harborough District – five at the scenes of crashes.
Drivers failed roadside breath and drugs tests in Market Harborough, Kibworth, Fleckney, Shangton, Saddington and Great Glen.

Across Leicestershire there were 81 drink-drive arrests and 29 drug-drive arrests, while five drivers were held for refusing to provide.
26 were made by officers following collisions, 23 drivers were aged 24 or under and 28 were stopped between 8am and 5pm.
There were 22 more arrests compared with the festive campaign in 2023 and the majority of drivers arrested were male, with just 9 females failing tests.
In Northamptonshire, 134 arrests were made during December, including drivers stopped in Desborough and Rothwell.
Police have expressed disappointment at the figures, saying they show people are still ignoring safety messages around the dangers of getting behind the wheel under the influence.
