Operation Stock

Around 130 farmers, landowners and rural residents have attended a
community meeting to discuss the recent incidents of illegal sheep
butchery.

Wednesday’s gathering was organised by Northamptonshire Police and the
National Farmers’ Union following reports of at least five incidents of
illegal butchery across the county – including on farms at Kelmarsh and
Clipston within the last week.

Security advice was given to farmers – and police reported a dedicated
intelligence officer is now working on the cases being investigated,
under the name ‘Operation Stock’.

The NFU estimates that more than 100 sheep have been illegally
slaughtered across Northamptonshire since March. It says the big turnout
shows how much of an impact these sickening crimes are having on the
rural community.
