Northamptonshire Libraries Update
Written by HFM on 22nd June 2018
Plans to decommission 21 Northamptonshire Libraries have been put on hold pending the outcome of a public hearing late next month.
After the news that Desborough Library was set to be closed for good at the end of August, solicitors acting on behalf of the family of a young girl, who regularly uses the facility, lodged an application for a judicial review.
Residents helped raise over two thousand pounds to support the action.
Now Northamptonshire County Councillors have recommended that officers seek to “streamline the process” – and not to proceed with the permanent closure of any library before the outcome of this review is known.
Nevertheless, the Council says discussions will continue with interested parties – such as community groups – who wish to take on and run their libraries independently, outside of statutory control.
