New Warning Over Dangers Of ‘Laughing Gas’

There is a warning about the dangers of inhaling so called ‘laughing gas’ after an increase in reports of empty Nitrous Oxide canisters in and around Market Harborough.
Canisters and discarded balloons – used by people to breathe in the gas – have been found in parks, lay-bys and other open spaces, prompting the plea by Police and community safety officers.

The substance was linked to 17 deaths in the UK in the past three years.
Nitrous Oxide is used as an anaesthetic during routine surgery, as well as in the catering industry for whipped cream.
According to the research charity DrugWise, nitrous oxide can lead to mild euphoria, with users experiencing light-headedness and even dizziness and hallucinations.
But inhaling it can also have more fatal consequences, with researchers warning it can result in a lack of oxygen to the brain, causing a person to fall unconscious and even dying through suffocation or heart problems.
