New Vet Surgery Plan Refused For 3rd Time

A veterinary practice has had plans to build a new surgery on the outskirts of Market Harborough refused for a third time.

Concerns over highway safety have led Harborough District Council to refuse the revised application by Rutland Veterinary Practice.

It wanted to create a new base on land off the B6047 Melton Road, close to the Langton Greenhouse and Garden Centre where it is currently based.

Highway bosses say an increase in vehicle movements turning on and off Melton Road near the McDonald’s roundabout ‘could be an additional source of danger to road users’.

A separate application to turn a detached house on the site into a surgery has also been thrown out for the same reason.

Rutland Veterinary Practice currently rents two rooms at the garden centre, but says after seeing a growth in patients and lack of security due to a monthly rolling lease, it needs to look elsewhere for a long-term premises.

The company has lodged an appeal against the council for the refusal of a previous application for the new surgery off the B6047 and a planning inspector is currently determining the case.
