New Food Waste Bins Delivered Ahead Of Collection Launch

New food waste bins are being delivered to residents in and around Desborough and Rothwell ahead of the launch of collections this autumn.
Households are receiving two caddies – a smaller one for use inside and a larger bin to be placed outside for collection.
North Northamptonshire Council is introducing the service as part of a new government requirement and it is expected to begin in early autumn, although an exact start date has yet to be confirmed.

Residents will be able to put their food waste caddies out on their normal bin collection day.
Cllr Ken Harrington, North Northamptonshire Council’s Executive Member for Assets, Waste and Environmental Services, said: “Residents in Kettering and Wellingborough areas have been keen to have food waste collections for some time and we’re nearly ready to roll out the service – keep an eye out for an exact start date.
“In the meantime, keep your new caddies safe and take a look at the information about what can be placed in your new bins.”
Larger blocks of flats with more than five properties will be included in a later stage of the rollout.
Food waste collections across the Harborough district have been delayed until next year because of delays in sourcing new specialist refuse vehicles.
