New ‘Affordable Homes’ Scheme In Market Harborough Officially Opened

Written by on 1st June 2023

A new £6m development of 27 affordable homes has been officially opened in Market Harborough as the first residents move in.

The scheme off Tymecrosse Gardens, on the Alvington Way estate, is a mix of one-bedroom bungalows and two, three and four-bedroom houses, which have been made available for social rent and shared ownership.

The ribbon is cut by Simon Whelband (representative of Harborough MP Neil O’Brien) to officially open the new housing scheme

With house prices in the area continuing to be higher than the average for the East Midlands, Nottingham Community Housing Association, who own and manage the homes, say they will provide affordable accommodation for local people who might otherwise have been priced out of the area.

Allan Fisher, Director of Development and Assets at NCHA comments: “This development is testament to our commitment to deliver quality affordable homes that people will be proud to live in.

“As house prices in the area continue to rise, affordable housing schemes like this are vital to support more people onto the property ladder and allow local people to be able to afford to stay in the area.”

At the opening event, officials from the housing assocation were joined by residents, as well as representatives from Harborough District Council and Homes England.

Cllr Jim Knight, Harborough District Council’s Cabinet lead for wellbeing, with responsibility for housing, said: “I am delighted that the council has supported this housing development, which has now been completed and is ready for residents to move in.

“The council recognises that affordable housing is needed in the Harborough district to ensure it remains a place which residents can comfortably live and work.”
