Names Revealed for Market Harborough Town Council Wards

Names have been proposed for the areas that would make up a new town council in Market Harborough.
Nine wards have been put forward: Arden, Symington, Little Bowden, Clack Hill, Logan, Robert Smyth, Wellington Place, Welland and Lubenham Hill.
The names are based on what the different areas are already known as by residents, as well as prominent local landmarks.
The new level of local government will initially be known as Market Harborough Parish Council and would have 16 councillors.
Under the proposals, the council would be established on April 1st next year, with the first elections taking place the following month.
The proposed warding arrangements are:
- Arden Ward – two councillors
- Symington Ward – one councillor
- Little Bowden Ward – two councillors
- Clack Hill Ward – two councillors
- Logan Ward – two councillors
- Robert Smyth Ward – one councillor
- Wellington Place Ward – one councillor
- Welland Ward – three councillors
- Lubenham Hill Ward – two councillors
Market Harborough has never had its own town council, but there is strong public support for creating a new level of local government.
A final decision on whether to establish the new council is due to be taken by Harborough District Council later this month.
