A thief who stole £200 worth of meat from Aldi in Market Harborough has been jailed for 20 weeks.

David Howard pleaded guilty to several shoplifting offences at Leicester Magistrates’ Court.

He also admitted stealing from Co-op stores in Fleckney, Scraptoft and Wigston, taking meat, cigarettes, scratch cards, confectionery and other goods.

Howard, 43, of of Compass Road in Leicester, also pleaded guilty to assaulting a man during the theft in Fleckney.

The court heard he had a persistent record of stealing using violence and previous offending.
