Major Repair Work To Take Place At Market Harborough’s Symington Building

Major maintenance work is to take place to the exterior of Market Harborough’s Symington Building.

Repairs to masonry, windows and the building’s tower need to be carried out.

Harborough District Council, which owns the historic grade 2-listed building, has allocated £472,000 for the project and is set to appoint a specialist contractor to carry out the work next week.

A report to the council’s Cabinet says: “To ensure that the building remains in a fit state it is necessary to carry out essential maintenance to the existing masonry, water goods and windows to reduce any further deterioration to the external elevations through weathering.”

The former Victorian corset factory is used by the council for its HQ and is also home to the town’s library and museum, Job Centre and three retail units.
