Kibworth Wildlife Hospital Releases Rescued Peregrine

A young peregrine falcon rescued from Leicester Cathedral has been released back into the wild after being cared for at Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital in Kibworth.

The bird, known as 4BB, was returned to the cathedral on Tuesday after building up her strength in the hospital’s large flight aviary.

Staff said she made “a strong flight” on release before joining two other peregrine falcons.

Volunteers who monitor the peregrines nesting at Leicester Cathedral will continue to keep an eye on her.

The young bird was admitted to the wildlife hospital after repeatedly leaving the nest too early. Volunteers monitoring the nesting pair returned her several times, but it became clear she was unlikely to settle after being disturbed by an adult male peregrine.

Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital thanked everyone involved in her care and said it was delighted to have given the falcon “a second chance” in the wild.
