Kelmarsh Event Linked to Three-Day Water Outage Near Market Harborough

An event attended by thousands of people at Kelmarsh Hall is thought to have contributed to hundreds of residents near Market Harborough losing their water supply for three days.

The Caravan and Motorhome Club’s annual ClubFest over the May Bank Holiday weekend increased demand on the network, leading to a pump failure affecting East Farndon and surrounding villages during a spell of hot weather.

Daventry MP Stuart Andrew has since met with Anglian Water chief executive Mark Thurston after being contacted by residents affected by the outage.

The outage also prompted complaints from residents who said bottled water and emergency water bowsers were not supplied.

Anglian Water has apologised and says it is taking steps to prevent a repeat of the incident.

A spokesperson said the company began work as soon as it became aware of the problem, using water tankers to support supplies before replacing the faulty equipment and making changes to other assets in the area to improve resilience.

The company says it is also carrying out a full review of the incident and has apologised to customers and businesses affected by the disruption.

The spokesperson added: “We know that going without water in such hot weather was really difficult for both customers and local businesses. We’d like to thank the community in East Farndon and the surrounding areas for bearing with us while we got things back to normal.”
