Leicestershire County Council has agreed to make £75m worth of savings and increase its portion of council tax by 3.99% in the next financial year, which will mean most residents across Harborough paying £1 more a week.

county council logo £27m of the savings are earmarked to come from efficiency savings – 75% – rather than service reductions.

Increasing council tax by 3.99 per cent – the maximum the authority can – will generate £12m, which the ruling Conservative group says will be invested in “supporting vulnerable people”.

The change will add around £50 to a Band D property’s annual council tax bill.

The Police part of the bill is also increasing, although Harborough Council is proposing no rise in its portion of the bill.
