Improvements Made At GP Practice After Concerns Raised By Inspectors

Major improvements have been made in how prescriptions are issued at a Harborough District GP Practice after inspectors raised serious concerns.

The Care Quality Commission returned to the South Leicestershire Medical Group after issuing warning notices for breaches of regulations earlier this year.

An inspection then found repeat prescriptions were not always signed by the prescribing clinician and continued to be given to patients who were overdue a medication review.

Following the latest visit last month, the CQC has reported all its concerns have been addressed and says services within the dispensary are now being delivered in-line with regulations and legal requirements.

Kibworth Medical Centre

The practice’s main site is in Kibworth and there are branch surgeries in Market Harborough, Fleckney and Great Glen.

A spokesperson for South Leicestershire Medical Group told HFM: “As always, SLMG welcomed the most recent visit from the CQC on the 16th of October.

“The team attended to review specific elements of their report published in June, specifically relating to our dispensary.

“We are pleased that the CQC were able to confirm that the changes made mean that we are fully compliant with regulations and have embedded the improvements to ensure they remain in place.”

No other elements of the practice were inspected during the latest visit and its overall CQC rating remains as ‘Requires Improvement’.
