Ice Causes ‘Several Collisions’ On A6 Bypass

Police say ice caused several collision on the A6 Desborough bypass this morning.

Officers were called to the stretch of the road close to the Braybrooke Road roundabout just before 7am.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police told HFM: “The closure relates to a series of collisions in the area due to ice on the road and it has been shut so the road can be gritted and made safe.

“No one appears to have sustained any serious injuries.”

The ice appears to have been caused by a burst water main, which led to water entering the carriageway which then froze over.

A spokesperson for North Northamptonshire Council, which is responsible for gritting, said: “The route was gritted last night as a precautionary measure and then it was followed up with an additional spot gritting (gritting at the specific location) overnight following reports.

“It looks like a burst water main which has been reported to Anglian Water.”
