Highway Bosses Request More Details On New Homes Plan

Highway bosses have requested more details about controversial plans to build ‘affordable’ homes on the edge of the Farndon Fields estate in Market Harborough.

Officers at Leicestershire County Council say the current application does not fully assess the highway impact of the proposed development of 38 houses on fields off Angell Drive.

Over 70 people have raised objections to the plan, including concerns about the impact of increased traffic, increased flood risk, changes to a public footpath through the site, the loss of open space and the homes being ‘overbearing’ on neighbouring residents.

A response provided to Harborough District Council – which will consider the plan – by LCC states: “The Local Highway Authority does not consider that the application as submitted fully assesses the highway impact of the proposed development and further information is required as set out in this response.

“Without this information the Local Highway Authority is unable to provide final highway advice on this application.”

The site earmarked for the new homes

Developer Owl Homes revised their initial plan, which included reducing the number of homes from 40 to 38, after concerns were expressed about the first proposal.

They say the homes will made available for shared ownership and social rent.

Harborough District Council is expected to make a decision on planning application by the autumn.
