Fire Crews Tackle Major Field Blaze near Market Harborough

A large area of farmland near Market Harborough has been damaged after a combine harvester caught fire.
The blaze broke out at around 12.40pm yesterday on farmland at Sulby Hall Old Drive, Sulby, before spreading across approximately 15 acres of fields.
Three crews from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, supported by a crew from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, tackled the fire using hose reels, beaters and wildfire backpacks to prevent it spreading further.
Around 15 acres of farmland were damaged
The fire service said the combine harvester had overheated, causing the fire to start accidentally.
All crews had left the scene by 4.15pm.
The incident was one of several field fires attended by firefighters across the region on Tuesday, many involving farm machinery during the hot weather.
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said its crews attended 48 incidents across the county during the day as the prolonged dry weather increased the fire risk.
The service is urging residents not to light bonfires and to take extra care when using barbecues, while farmers are also being asked to help reduce the risk of fires during harvesting.
