Calls For Alvington Way Speed Limit To Be Cut To 20mph

A petition has been handed in calling for the speed limit on a road in Market Harborough to be reduced to 20 miles per hour.

More than 80 residents living in and around Alvington Way have signed the petition amid concerns about the speed of traffic and fears a pedestrian could be hit and seriously injured or worse.

The road is well-used by children and parents walking to and from school, and residents say the situation has been made worse by more drivers using it as a cut-through since the Wellington Place estate opened.

Although Alvington Way has some speed humps, campaigners say some drivers are still travelling too fast and action is needed to slow traffic down.

The petition has been presented to Cllr Sarah Hill on behalf of Leicestershire County Council, which would be the authority responsible for considering any reduction to the speed limit.
