A14 Delays Continue After Car Fire Near Welford

The aftermath of a car fire is continuing to cause delays for drivers on the A14.

Emergency services were called to the westbound carriageway near junction one at Welford just after 1pm today.

One lane remains closed past the scene while assessments are carried out on damage to the road surface

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews from Daventry and Long Buckby attended the fire and, wearing breathing apparatus, used a hose-reel jet to extinguish the blaze before returning to their stations at around 2:20pm.”

No-one was injured.

Long queues continue to build approaching the lane closure.

The road was initially closed in both directions by National Highways while the fire was dealt with, and one lane remains closed past the scene while assessments are carried out on damage to the road surface.
