Have Your Say On Plans To Transform Hospital Services
Written by HFM News on 28th September 2020
People are being urged to have their say on plans to transform Leicester’s hospital services.
The £450m ‘Building Better Hospitals for the Future’ proposals includes moving all acute care, such as treatment for severe injury and illness, to the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Glenfield Hospital, where there will be two new ‘super’ intensive care units, each with 100 beds – almost double the current number.
A new children’s hospital would be created at the LRi and a state-of-the-art treatment centre at Glenfield.
Leicester General would become a community health campus if the plans progress.
In addition, the proposals include potentially relocating the midwifery-led unit at St Mary’s Hospital, Melton Mowbray to the Leicester General Hospital campus – ensuring that the service is accessible to many more women living across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, while also enabling them to be closer to specialist medical support should they need it.
