A new shopping venue has opened in Market Harborough today, allowing people to buy ethically under one roof.

The ‘Eco Village’ has been created in the former Plumb Center building on St Mary’s Road and is home to traders and producers selling locally sourced and sustainable products, helping customers to reduce packaging and food miles.

It was a busy first day at the Eco Village

The venture has been launched by Beth Lambert, who will also continue to run her ‘Refill Revolution’ business at Harborough Market, and business partner Beth Awdry, after they set-up a Community Interest Company.

Beth Lambert spoke to Hfm during a busy opening day:

The venue has a spacious seating area where customers can relax and enjoy refreshments and there are plans to turn waste land at the back of the centre into a community garden and hold educational events, talks and even possibly a pop-up cinema in the future.

These people, who were among the first customers, spoke to Hfm:

The Eco Village is open Tuesday – Saturday between 9am and 4pm and the fresh produce area is open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday between those times.
