Great Glen Housing Plans Refused But Government Review Possible

Controversial plans for 180 new homes in Great Glen have been rejected after councillors raised concerns about traffic and highway safety.

However, the decision by Harborough District Council’s planning committee last night may not be the final word on the plans.

The development off London Road had been recommended for approval by planning officers, but councillors voted against the scheme.

Under new government rules, local planning authorities must now consult the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government before refusing major housing applications involving 150 or more homes.

Angela Rayner could decide to ‘call-in’ the council’s decision and order a planning inspector to review it, before a final outcome is reached.
