Government officials have been taken on a tour of new development sites in Market Harborough as the area’s MP pushes for reform to what he calls a ‘broken’ planning system.

Neil O’Brien says housebuilding is happening in the wrong place too often because the hands of council officials are tied, when it comes to granting them permission:

He also raised concerns about builders not abiding by planning conditions during the visit to new home developments on the Fardon Fields estate, Burnmill Farm off Kingston Way and Airfield Farm, off Leicester Road.

Senior Officials from Harborough District Council were also on the tour.

Council Leader, Cllr Phil King said, “It’s very important to have the opportunity to meet with Treasury Officials here and for us to be able to show them the local impact of decisions taken centrally.

Councillors and Council Officials work incredibly hard on behalf of local residents, and we’re always keen to work with policy makers to help drive improvements where possible.”
