It’s Goodbye After Fifty Years!

A Market Harborough carpet fitter has just hung up his Stanley Knife for the final time after half a century working for the same family company.

Gary Freestone (pictured above, far right, in the past) was employed by H Monk & Sons in the town as a teenager, straight out of school, having been given the job by then local councillor and business owner Kitty Monk.

That’s current Director, Oliver Monk, who’s been in charge during Gary’s more recent career with the company – as a carpet fitter and delivery driver.

After a farewell meal with management and colleagues (above), Gary retired on Monday (11th August) – and told HFM he’s looking forward to a rest, and spending more time with his family and grandchildren.

Oliver reveals Gary had become the longest serving staff member in the 130 year history of their business…

He adds that Gary’s been a highly valued member of their team…
