Free Parking As ‘Shop Local’ Campaign Steps-Up

Shoppers will be able to park for free in Market Harborough tomorrow as a ‘Shop Local’ campaign gathers pace in the run-up to Christmas.

Harborough District Council is waiving charges in its car parks on the next three Saturdays, to encourage more people into the town centre and support local businesses.

The initiative kicks off tomorrow on Small Business Saturday, which celebrates independent shops and traders.

Gareth Thomas, President of Market Harborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce, has welcomed the initiative:

Drivers will be able to park for free for up to four hours in short-stay car parks, and all day in the long-stay ones.

The council says to qualify for the free parking, drivers must register their vehicle by sentering the registration number at payment machines or by obtaining a free parking session on the Pay by Phone App.

There initiative is also running in Lutterworth.
