Fire Warning to Farmers and Landowners

A local fire authority is urging farmers and landowners to be extra vigilant to avoid hay bale and field fires during this year’s harvest.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service has issued the warning due to a recent lack of rain in the HFM area – with dry foliage and shrubbery meaning it doesn’t take long for a fire to spread and become significant.

Their advice includes putting bale stacks out of sight where possible, at least 10 metres apart; also to keep bales away from roadsides and not stacked under overhead power lines.
