Fall In Fly-Tipping Incidents Across Harborough

The amount of fly-tipping across Harborough has dropped for a third year.

There were 322 incidents in the last 12 months, compared with 469 the previous year.

The fall of nearly a third bucks the national trend, with many other areas of the country seeing large increases in illegal dumping.

Harborough District Council say its on-going ‘Tip Off’ campaign has helped with the reduction, by encouraging people to report fly-tipping and tracking down those responsible.

Targeting hot-spot areas with covert CCTV has also helped provide evidence for some of over 260 enforcement actions in the past year, resulting in fines handed to those caught in the act or linked to dumped rubbish.

The Tip Off campaign, which last year won a National Recycling Award, encourages residents to report incidents through the Council’s website or by email, with public reports about fly-tipping increasing this year by 124%.

Since it was launched in 2018/19, it has helped reduce fly-tipping by 59% across the Harborough district.

Key messages about the campaign are promoted through radio adverts on Hfm and on social media.
