EMR Suspends Some Train Services Amid Heatwave

Rail passengers travelling to and from Market Harborough are being warned to expect disruption as East Midlands Railway suspends some services due to the hot weather.

The operator is advising customers to only travel if their journey is essential, with services expected to be affected for the rest of the week as temperatures soar across the region.

Although trains serving Market Harborough are continuing to run, EMR says some services have also been removed from the timetable, while other trains may run at reduced speeds for safety reasons.

Several services have been cancelled in recent days as several trains required repairs due to “heat-related issues”.

The operator is urging passengers who do need to travel to do so before midday where possible, avoid the hottest part of the day and check their journey before setting off.

The disruption follows an amber heat-health alert issued by the UK Health Security Agency covering the East Midlands until Sunday.

Philippa Cresswell, Customer Experience Director at East Midlands Railway, said: “The hot weather means we’ll need to make some temporary changes to our services to keep the railway operating safely.

“If you do need to travel and the journey is essential, we’d recommend travelling before midday and checking your journey before setting off.

“We appreciate these changes may inconvenience some customers and we’d like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we work to keep people moving safely.”
