Electric Buses Set To Be Introduced

Electric buses are set to be introduced on services connecting Market Harborough with Desborough, Rothwell and Kettering as part of a £4m project.

Eight zero-emission vehicles would operate on Stagecoach routes 17, 18 and 19.

North Northants Council is planning to invest over £1.5m of government funding in the project, with the bus operator covering the rest of the costs.

Electric buses are set to be introduced on Stagecoach routes 17, 18 and 19.

Cllr Chris McGiffen, the council’s Executive Member for Highways and Travel, said: “As a council, we’re committed to improving our public transport network to benefit residents in North Northamptonshire, which this scheme should do.

“On a practical level, this route has been chosen due to it being within the range of current battery technology and requires sufficient vehicles to justify the investment.”

If the council funding is approved at a meeting next week, the new buses are expected to enter service in autumn next year.
