Edwin Court upgrade

It’s been revealed that a major fire safety scheme at a complex of 75
flats in Market Harborough will force tenants to move out of their homes
for up to two months.

Waterloo Housing says “specialist fire safety works” at Edwin Court have
become necessary because it doesn’t meet new government regulations
introduced after the Grenfell Tower fire.

The four storey building on Kettering Road – which is just ten years’
old – will now be upgraded, six to eight bedsits at a time, over the
next 18 months.

Residents have been given the choice of temporarily relocating to one of
the empty units at Edwin Court – or moving out to stay with family or
friends whilst the work is carried out.

However, many tenants have complained about the short notice – and
questioned whether vacating their homes for up to eight weeks is really
necessary.

A spokesperson for Waterloo Housing said: “We absolutely understand how
disruptive the improvement work will be – but completing it is the only
way to ensure complete safety for the residents living there”.
