Drivers Warned Of Overnight A14 Closure

Drivers are being warned they will face a lengthy diversion when a five-mile stretch of the A14 closes overnight for several days from Monday.

Resurfacing work will mean both carriageways will be shut from junction one at Welford to junction two at Kelmarsh, between 8pm and 6am on weekdays until January 24th.

The 18-mile diversion route will take motorists along the A508 to the outskirts of Northampton and then onto the A5199 and vice-versa, adding around 30 minutes to journey times.

National Highways will be carrying out the work and a spokesperson said: “We’re undertaking essential resurfacing on the A14 between junction 1 and 2.

“As part of the work we’ll be resurfacing, retexturing and renewing all road markings to provide a smoother, safer carriageway for road users.

“During the closures, a fully signed diversion will be in place and access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout.

“We’ll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum.

“We always aim to work to the programme; however, unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may mean changes.”
