A man who crashed his car into a newly built house in Desborough – causing damage totalling over £78,000 – has been handed a suspended jail sentence.

Simba Chimba, a nurse, lost control of his Mercedes on Dunkirk Avenue in the early hours of May 13th last year.

He suffered minor injuries and no-one in the house was hurt.

Northampton Crown Court heard the crash happened after the 26-year-old had gone for a late-night drive as he was struggling with impact of the pandemic.

The collision caused major structural damage to the property.

Chimba, of Church View Road in Desborough, admitted dangerous driving and was given a nine month prison sentence, suspended for two years and disqualified from driving for a year.
