Delight As Junior Parkrun Returns To Desborough

Over 80 youngsters returned to Desborough’s Green Space Junior Parkrun yesterday, after waiting over a year to get together again.

The relaxation of lockdown rules meant the weekly event was back, near the Leisure Centre.

It was extra special too, as the day marked the popular event’s second birthday and 32 volunteers helped ensure the 2k route was safe for all taking part.

Matthew Peleszok, Event Director of Desborough Green Space Junior parkrun said: “After 13 months away it was perfect timing to see us return on our Birthday.

“The atmosphere before the children started was lovely to see and hear.

“Something that has been missing from our communities for such a long period.  We hope to grow over the coming months and continue to provide a free weekly opportunity for Children to be active”.

Recent evidence published by Sport England and the Youth Sport Trust suggests that there has been a profound decline in children’s physical activity levels over the course of this year. Also, that pre-existing health inequalities have increased, with those from most disadvantaged communities being disproportionately impacted.

A survey from parkrun, showed that 75% of children have fewer opportunities to be active during the last 12 months, and 82% of parents saying they are happy for their children to junior parkrun.
