‘Deep Concern’ At Rising Covid-19 Cases Across Harborough

Health and Council officials have expressed deep concern over a surge in Covid-19 cases across Harborough and Leicestershire as a whole.

The infection rate in the District is now up to 333 cases per 100,000 people – well above the national average of 270 – and three times the number a month ago – the rate for the whole of the county is approaching 400 per 100,000.

If numbers don’t drop, further restrictions are likely to be imposed when the lockdown is lifted.

The impact of the second wave is being felt at Leicester’s Hospitals – Andy Williams is Chief Executive of the Leicestershire’s Clinical Commissioning groups:

Leicestershire Police has issued 589 fines to people for breaching Covid-19 restrictions.

The force has also revealed it has responded to over 16,000 reports of rules not being adhered to.

A third of the fines have been given to people aged 18 to 24 – last night two teenagers in Fleckney were issued one after they were found by officers in a group with others who were not in their household.
