Courageous Market Harborough Woman To Be Guest Of Honour at Race For Life

A courageous Market Harborough woman living with incurable cancer will be guest of honour at Cancer Research UK’s Race For Life in Leicester on Sunday.

Sophie Williams, 52, was invited to be the VIP starter for her tireless work in raising awareness of anal cancer and money for the charity, in a unique way.

Little peg dolls – called ‘Soph’s Angels’ – were created by her Mum to represent Sophie and her determination since being diagnosed with cancer.

They have turned into an internet sensation, with friends taking them places and posting pictures on social media, including in Los Angeles, Paris and even at Harry Styles’ Wembley Stadium concert.

It turned into Sophie’s ‘Yeah But No Butt’ campaign, which has so far raised £8,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Sophie, who used to run the Ministry Of Dance School In Market Harborough, will also start the Race for Life in Northampton at the end of the month:

Sophie underwent countless procedures since the initial cancer diagnosis, including a pioneering 12-hour operation to remove a tumour the size of a melon, of which she was the first person to survive, and has just completed a final, six-month course of chemotherapy.

Paula Young, spokesperson for Cancer Research UK in Leicester, said: “Words can’t express how grateful we are to Sophie and Jan for all that they’re doing. The dolls are wonderful, and we can’t wait to bring them up on stage at Race for Life. We’d love as many people as possible to come along, take part in one of the 3k, 5k or 10k routes – or even a Pretty Muddy event – and help us bring about a future free from the fear of cancer.”
