Harborough District Council is seeking to allay fears sports clubs could lose access to the sports hall at Harborough Leisure Centre.

The authority has responded to rumours that the space maybe ‘lost’ and put to another use.

Cat Hartley, Director of Communities and Wellbeing said: “We have been made aware that rumours have been circulating over the future of the sports hall, and in particular about it being lost in the future.

“We would like to reassure all users of the leisure centre that absolutely no decisions have been made by councillors about any alternative uses, and that the council recognises how valuable the facilities are to the community.

“We are aware of the worries being created and have made it clear that meetings will be held to look at the matters in detail.”

HDC says councillors will be meeting with both users and centre operator Everyone Active over the matter, after which a full report will be taken to the council’s cabinet for consideration.

The Leisure Centre has recently received a major upgrade following a multi-million-pound investment into a complete refurbishment and new facilities, including the construction of a brand new purpose built racquet sports arena, fitness studios, improved swimming pool, and a whole host of other fitness features.
