Council On Track To Save Historic Village Pub

Written by on 19th August 2025

Plans to a reopen a village’s last remaining pub are a step closer now that refurbishment proposals have been submitted to North Northamptonshire Council.

Despite being given ‘Asset of Community Value’ protection from speculative property developers, Grade 2 listed pub ‘The George’ in Ashley had suffered mixed fortunes before shutting its doors to customers yet again last year.

Chair of Ashley Parish Council, Stephen Castens, has been closely involved with the ambitious project to save the pub … culminating in them actually purchasing the premises!

Cllr Castens adds that very little has been spent on the pub since the 1960s, so it needs some TLC before welcoming customers again…
