Council Defends Pace Of Local Plan Preparation

Harborough District Council is defending the pace at which it is progressing a new Local Plan – that will map out where housing developments will go over the next 15 years.
MP Neil O’Brien and opposition councillors have been critical at the speed of the preparation, arguing there has not been enough time to fully scrutinise the details.
The council says it wants to get the plan approved before government changes to planning policy come in, which could mean nearly 200 additional homes a year having to be built across the district.
David Atkinson, Director of Planning at HDC told HFM delaying the plan could cost over £1m:
Details of where developments are likely to go are set to be published before Christmas, with councillors to consider the plan in early January.
There will then be a period of public consultation.
