Coronavirus: Friday’s Local Updates

24 fines have been issued to people across Harborough and Wigston for breaching the government’s lock-down restrictions.

The £60 on-the-spot fines have all been given to males, apart from on one occasion when a female was issued one.

Police say 14 have been issued to people found to be carrying out a non-essential journey on foot or in a vehicle and 10 to those gathering in a public place in a group, and failing to disperse when asked to by an officer.

Pc Malc Roberts from Harborough Police told Hfm issuing fines is a last resort:

 

Over £110,000 has be en handed to community groups across Harborough from an emergency fund set-up to help them support others during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Fourteen have received help from the County Council’s Communities Fund, which totalled £1.5m and has helped 160 groups across Leicestershire.

The latest grants have gone to groups including Hfm, the Harborough 2012 Lions Club and Kibworth Beauchamp Parish Council.

 

A convoy of around 60 vehicles passed through Market Harborough last night to coincide with Thursday’s Clap For Our Carers campaign.

It was the third week the event was held by local firms to salute NHS and key workers, with Union flags also placed on some of the vehicles as part of the 75th Anniversary of VE Day celebrations.

The event has also raised over £600 for the town’s Jubilee Foodbank, after organisers asked people to make donations on a Justgiving page.
