Controversial ‘Expressway’ Plan Set To Be Scrapped

The controversial plan to build an ‘expressway’ road near several Harborough villages looks set to be scrapped.

It was first revealed two years ago, alongside proposals for 180,000 new homes in Leicestershire over the next 30 years, but has been heavily opposed ever since.

Transport bosses say they now won’t be bidding for government cash to pay for it, and instead are set to look at alternatives, like upgrading existing roads.

Although no exact route was published, the road would have run in an arc around Leicester, passing near places including Great Glen, Billesdon and Shearsby.
