‘Construction Plan’ Being Prepared For New £5m Aldi Store

Aldi says it is continuing to prepare construction plans for a new store in Market Harborough.
The supermarket giant was given planning permission for the £5m store in March, but as yet there is no timescale as to when work will start on the site off Rockingham Road.
When the plan was first announced Aldi said it hoped the new store, which will replace its existing premises on Springfield Street, would open by 2024.
An Aldi spokesperson told HFM: “Aldi is continuing to prepare our construction plans for a new store in Market Harborough.
“This detailed planning can take some time, but we are committed to ensuring we get things right, to make the build process as smooth as possible.
“We will update the community as soon as we have specific dates for starting on site and for opening.
“In the meantime, residents of Market Harborough and the surrounding area can continue to access our high-value low-cost products at our existing store in the town.”

The new larger store, which will create 15 additional jobs and include a 129-space car park, will be built on land at the Gores Lane junction, currently occupied by Glenmere Timber Company.
Seven business starter units will also form part of the development.
A ‘section 106’ agreement between Harborough District Council, Leicestershire County Council, Aldi and landowner Glenmere Timer Company has been signed this week.
It details funding for infrastructure improvements linked to the development, including over £70,000 to upgrade traffic lights at the Rockingham Road/Gores Lane junction.
Glenmere Timber Company will continue to operate from its other base in Market Harborough when it vacates the site.
