Conservatives Lose Control Of Harborough District Council

The Conservatives have lost control of Harborough District Council following yesterday’s election.
Although the party secured the largest number of seats with 15, it was not enough to meet the threshold for overall control, with the Liberal Democrats winning 13, Labour 3 and the Green Party securing 3 seats.
It means no party is now in overall control of the council after results were declared following the count at Harborough Leisure Centre today.
Conservative group leader Phil King was re-elected in Kibworth and spoke to HFM about the overall defeat for his party:

Both the Liberal Democrats and Labour gained seats, while the Green Party will be represented for the first time, after winning all three seats in Market Harborough’s Welland Ward, including defeating long-serving Lib Dem councillor Roger Dunton.
Darren Woodiwiss was one of those elected and the co-ordinator of the Green Party campaign:

It the first time in a number of years no political party has been in overall control of Harborough District Council.
Heads of the different political groups could now try to come up with some form of deal, which could see them forming some kind of coalition to claim the majority.
